Teens like Josh and D’Amelio are living examples of alternate careers that GenZs are building in the passion economy space. These aren’t random celebrities who have become famous overnight. They are young entrepreneurs who first built a community online then figured out multiple streams of revenue. They also inspired an entire generation of GenZs to look for alternate career paths.

I (Utkarsh) got a chance to meet Andrew Chen yesterday and learn more about his work, investment thesis and career at large. He will be conducting a masterclass on Network Capital before the launch his book “The Cold Start Problem”. If you have any questions for him, please send them my way. These are some takeaways from our discussions and broad reflections on his career principles.

If you analyze Mahmoud’s portfolio of products and services, you will find merchandize, discussion groups and cohort based courses. What isn’t explicit is his community, the most important component for any creator.

He is able to sell effectively because he has managed to build a reasonably large, engaged community that is willing to invest time and money to learn philosophical concepts. Without his community, he would have to find new audience from scratch for every new launch. That is challenging for everyone, specially one person companies that are largely built on the personality of the creator.
