INK and Network Capital have joined hands to set up “Youth INK with Network Capital” to help school students build their category of one. It will be a yearlong immersion program where students will spend an hour every weekend learning from top CEOs, academics, artists, scientists and policy makers.

Aarti and Aditya fell in love with water lily pops all the way back in school. This love for the snack followed them into college. The husband-and-wife team shared their ‘pop’ romance with their friends, classmates, and professors too. They’d pop ‘em at home and share the little goodies on campus. This was the start of it all.

So what connects the invention of basketball, volleyball and vaccines? To some extent, a problem-first people-first approach. The inventors wanted to play their part in solving a real problem keeping people at the core of their pursuits.

To a larger extent though, these inventions were brewing for a long time in the minds of their creators.

For us and many around us, the year of the pandemic became an intense period of post-traumatic growth, and it will take a while to come to terms with it. But in our fragile world, more often than not unexpected events and difficult circumstances arise that are beyond our control, and we have to decide how to respond to them — this is where necessity-based serendipity comes in. How can we use challenging circumstances to harness a more meaningful and serendipitous life, now and in the future?

The challenge with restarting your career after a break or trying to do something completely different from your past experience is the starting point. We are all creatures of momentum and habit. If we are in a rut, we end up staying that way. If we are in a hole, we keep digging.

We can be anything we want to be as long as we are ready to start afresh. The key concept here is to look at work life not as a race but like what Reid Hoffman calls “tour of duty”.
