Being your own boss is incredibly liberating but also incredibly lonely. You need to manage your output, your productivity, your creativity, your expenses, your contractors. The list goes on. There will be bad days, of course. You need to figure out ways to keep yourself motivated and energized. The key is to not expect an “Instagrammable” life each day. Like everybody else, you will be dealing with the trials and tribulations of daily life. Not having a manager might give you more autonomy but that also means you need to take greater ownership of your work. You will have to train yourself to own your failures, learn from them and bounce back on days where things are going berserk.

Carve out constraints in your life as they will propel you to discover your reason for being. Constraints could be artificial like in the case of Ghost or thought through in case you have a full time job and are working on a side hustle - and have just a few hours a day/week to make progress on your side hustle. If you really want to do something and because of less than idea situations aka constraints you are unable to carve out time, it just means it isn’t a priority. Wait to find something that really matters to you. When you do, time will figure itself out — it is elastic.

Try, iterate and find your fit. The spectrum of possibilities is wide, the opportunities are everywhere. It is time to look for new vistas even if the society seems reticent to give their stamp of approval. Remember their skepticism might just be stemming from lack of exposure. You don’t need anyone’s validation and even if you crave for that, know that it will happen over time. Inaction because you lack validation will likely haunt you over the long term.
