🖇️ Masterclass Recommendation: Career Principles and EdTech Trends with Lightspeed Ventures Partner Mercedes Bent | Harvard and Stanford Grad | Diversity and Inclusion Champion

🧑🏻‍🏫 The Launch of Network Capital School and graduation talks of the Network Capital Summer School

Historically education was an amorphous bundle of core skills, soft skills, critical thinking, signaling value and networking (think of school as a place where kids go to socialize. What we are witnessing now is the great unbundling of education where different companies and communities are attempting to capture one part of the bundle. What that means is that education companies these days are fundamentally different than the educational institutions we are all familiar with.

In this 3 week-long fellowship, we will -

  1. Unpack the trends in the Ed-Tech industry

  2. Learn from insights the best Ed-Tech operators and investors

  3. Help you build your Ed-Tech thesis

In the past, we have hosted people like Ronnie Screwvala (co-founder of UpGrad), Azeez Gupta (co-founder of Rocket Learning), and Mercedes Bent (Partner, Lightspeed Ventures).

In today’s “breaking news” culture obsessed with dramatic success and failure stories, it helps to keep in mind that the most successful businessman in the world built his company step by step, ferociously. Success didn’t just happen. It took a whole long list of embarrassing failures. (Bezos and Elon Musk developed a healthy rivalry over the space mission and for the longest time Bezos kept losing… Until he didn’t)

When pursuing challenging missions - such as trying to build your category of one doing whatever you do - remember it will take effort, consistency and patience to flower.

Thomas Hobbes once said that life is solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and short. That isn’t the life in the 21st century. We still have big challenges to solve for but life today is community-driven, rich with abundance (on average), adventurous, unpredictable and long. If we want to thrive, we will need to reinvent ourselves multiple times and build a portfolio of curiosities, convictions and careers. Growth mindset and belief in the power of the possible will drive us forward. It won’t be smooth but no memorable adventure ever is.

The ultimate role of Aristotle is that of a life GPS. He has been giving us direction for more than two millennia and will continue to do so in the times to come. We just need to be intentional about carving the time and space for him.
