What we learned together on Network Capital this week?

Quick recap of the last 7 days

Dear readers,

Happy Independence Day. Today we celebrate the collective struggles we have overcome in the last 75 years to emerge as the world’s largest democracy and among the technology capitals of the world. We have many challenges to overcome together but let’s take a moment to reflect on how far we have come from where we started back in 1947.

To commemorate this moment, we launched our founder Utkarsh Amitabh’s new book “Passion Economy and the Side Hustle Revolution” at The India Club in London. The charmingly eccentric India Club has remained much the same since its opening over 50 years ago. Hidden up a flight of stairs, India Club is part of London's history. We had a full house and we spent our time discussing the future of work, ideas of India and her role in shaping the new world order. This week we are hosting Prateek Jain (Senior Product Manager at Twilio, Columbia Business School alumnus) on Network Capital to talk about -

  1. His career transition from being a aeronautical engineer to product management

  2. The art and science of product management for hypergrowth companies

  3. His upcoming cohort-based course on Network Capital - Hyper-Growth B2B Product Management

New course: Your first 1000 dollars online

Everyone has a super power but we tend to ignore it wrongly choosing the hotter option or the easier option. We tend to ignore our intrinsic curiosity for what’s popular today and end up with suboptimal results. Our goal is to help you figure out what you are good at, what you love to do and what you can be paid for on the internet - with or without advertising revenue

PS. We start on September 6, 2022!

💌 To Salman Rushdie, With Love: India at 75 and Midnight’s Children - As India celebrates 75 years of Independence from the British rule, it must re-engage with its midnight’s children and ask if it is making them proud of putting them to shame. Success is one area does not compensate for failure in others. Having good foreign direct investments and a thriving startup culture cannot be used as a defense for a society that is losing grip over its morality. We aren’t saying India has lost its morality but the question must be examined objectively with the lens of midnight’s children who ushered India into a new dawn after 200 years of unfettered darkness.

💌 Serena Williams: Tennis Star Turned Venture Capitalist - Like Serena, many of us will have to evolve away from our current pursuits and reinvent ourselves. We can learn from Serena’s playbook, especially the way she first made investing a side hustle, explored whether she enjoyed it or not, and then committed full time to it.

💌 Prioritizing important over urgent - He offered the analogy that managing a company in hypergrowth is very much like Formula One racing, speed skiing or surfing. When you’re learning to drive a race car or surf a wave, you’re taught not to fight the momentum but to ride with it. Mentally that means being both focused and relaxed—focused to the extent that you’re paying attention only to the driving, but relaxed about how the ride is going.
