Dalit Capital: The World's First Professional Network for Dalits

Capital, Network, Learning, Career Development Opportunities for Dalits

There are more than 200 million Dalits in India but there isn’t an organized professional network to connect, learn and create opportunities. Let’s change that. Members of historically oppressed communities don’t need sympathy and words of encouragement. What they need is capital, network and career development opportunities to build their category of one.

Talent is equally distributed, opportunities are not, especially for those who have been marginalized for centuries. Our vision is to create a safe space for Dalits to complement, not substitute the usual offerings of Network Capital.

Please note

  1. This is opt-in. If you identify as a Dalit and want to be part of a community in addition to Network Capital, you can choose to join.

  2. Caste is a complex issue. We can’t solve for all underlying issues. We will stick to what we know best - career experimentation, mentorship and career advancement

  3. We are trying our bit and might launch more vertical groups if there is interest. For example, for LGBTQI, Women, Refugees. Feel free to send us ideas.

We aspire to bring all Dalits together on one platform and do our best to help with the following:

  1. Community: We see the Dalit Capital community emerge as the platform to share insights, receive and offer mentorship, and strengthen every person’s network capital over time.

  2. Capital: Help Dalits raise funds for their ventures by providing introductions, networking opportunities

  3. Cohort Based Courses

  4. Opportunities to get published

  5. Mentorship for specific career goals

This is just an outline. We would love to build the charter of the program taking inputs from as many people as possible. That said, we won’t let perfect become the enemy of good. We won’t get everything right the first time we try. We will make mistakes and count on your support to guide us in the right direction.

*** If you know of someone who wants to play a leading role in shaping this initiative, please send them our way.

P.S. Few years back, there was an article published in YKA that suggested we should do more to create a level playing field. You can read the article here.

We are always looking for constructive ideas and suggestions. Feel free to let us know by commenting on this thread.
